The ultra high grade nickel finished movement has 29 to 31 jewels and is jewelled to the hammers and the centre. Wound by the crown and set by the lever at 4. Diameter 54 mm excluding crown and stem. Case is fairly thin with some dents. Dial has a couple of fine hairlines which may clean. Heraldic crests front and back..... Movement is dirty and the watch would benefit from a clean and service as it sometimes sticks and stops, particularly aound 29 minutes past. The watch is lever set and accessed by opening the front bezel. The fly spring for the bezel is not present so it has to be opened by hand using the thumbpiece after pressing the pip on the crown. Base metal case has screw bezels and the case back is clearly different to the front as it has a lip and a slightly different finish to the front bezel and band. I suspect that watch backs were swapped as trophies or perhaps an exchange of gifts. Either way, the case back bears KRIEGSMARINE marks together with the full Kriegsmarine crest. This is valuable in it’s own right without the rest of the watch. Diameter is 52 mm excluding crown and stem. Case is in excellent condition. This is the lowest grade watch in this lot and I bought it with anecdotal history to the effect it was seized by an American Officer from a German soldier in the Normandy landings in WWII, however I have no proof of this. It absolutely is not a military issue watch, so it may have been a personal piece. Art deco watches of this era and type often have geometric designs incorporated into the case backs as does this one. What is unusual is the central part of the design is a large mystic symbol which was also used by a political party around the same time and incorporated by German military units shortly afterwards. I think the symbol is coincidental as opposed to having been produced as a badge, but I have never seen another. Anyway, the symbol is censored to avoid offence and covers almost the entire case back. This watch has a matte silvered dial signed Crometa. There are three different sizes in terms of overall dimensions. One is 36.5mm long by 8.71mm at the widest point and weighs 3.5 grammes, the second is 31.3mm long by 6.65mm at the widest point and weighs 1.9 grammes, the third is 27.7mm long by 6.43mm at the widest point and weighs 1.6 grammes. The ratchets on all of them are ok but there is a little wear due to age. Each key has a steel insert for winding purposes and a suspension ring for attachment to an Albert watch chain. The steel inserts are all fine. The fob body is formed of a gold case around a cornelian stone seal engraved with a picture of a flower and ‘A Vous’ in reverse so that it prints correctly when used to seal documents etc. The seal is attached to the suspension loop by a serpent, The gold is a beautiful rose colour. It is not marked but is warrantied as solid gold, at least 9K (it is probably 18K though ). It is in overall excellent condition for it’s age. Overall dimensions are 19.4mm by 14mm by 21mm excluding the suspension ring and weighs 5.3 grammes.
